Hello, I am searching for descendants of sisters Anne, Eliza and Kate Hickey all born in Kilkenny between 1866 -1874; father's name Michael (Mich) Hickey. The sisters moved to Cork and are on the 1901 and 1911 census. Anne Hickey married Thomas Murphy in Cork in 1905. (Anne's daughter Mary is my maternal grandmother; she was born in Clonmel in 1893.) Kate married John Valentine Mills and had two daughters: Kathleen Josephine and Georgina Alma.
I will be visiting Ireland this October and will be staying in Kilkenny, Clonmel and Cork to research further. I would be grateful if anyone has any information at all to help with my research. Many thanks. Viv Clarke

Hi Viv!
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
You don't mention what part of Cork the family came from. I looked at the online Irish phone book https://www.eirphonebook.ie/# There are 67 Mills entries in Co. Cork (make sure you use the Residential Tab) so possibly you might find a lead.
Have you considered autosomal DNA testing? Have a great trip!

Hi Roger
Many thanks for replying. My ancestors lived near the centre of Cork, in Market Avenue (off Oliver Plunkett St), Margaret St, Merchants Quay and Evergreen Street. I found all this from the 1901 and 1911 censuses and from what my grandmother told me. She also spoke about the nuns so I assume she was taught by them somewhere in Cork or near where they lived. I will have a look at the website you mentioned and no, I haven't had the DNA testing - not yet. I know it is something useful for the future.
Many thanks once again and best wishes. Viv
