Good Afternoon,
Researching my great grandfather John Millar from County Cork. He was born in 1888 in Bantry, Cork to Thomas and Mary Millar. I found them in the 1901 and 1911 census.
The 1911 census shows Thomas and Mary had 14 children with 6 living. I see other Millar children born around that time but confused by this location: Lettertickey, Cork. Would you know if that is near Bantry or Schull?
The census says Lowerton, Knock, Schull.
Thank you very much, so appreciate any help to figure out the Millars from Cork! Barbara

Barbara:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Knock townland is in Skull civil parish as is the town of Skull or Schull https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schull There is no townland called Lettertickey but there is a Letter townland in the parish so maybe that is the location.
Bantry is 24 kilometers (14 miles) north of Skull/Schull.

I think the townland is Letterlicky. There is a Letterlicky East, West and Middle all in Kilmocomoge civil parish and the RC parish would be Bantry. Bantry town is also in Kilmocomoge civil parish.

Thank you! I am so excited! I think I have found my family!
I know my great grandfather John Millar was born in Bantry in 1888. There were so many clues in the 1901 and 1911 census. His parents are Thomas and Mary Millar they had a total of 14 children only 6 surviving in 1911. Using Find My Past website I see a Mary and Thomas Millar listed with many births around that time in the same area (Letterlicky). I think they must be my gg grandparents!
I also know that John Millar married Sarah Ann Wilkinson. Sarah Ann's parents were William Wilkinson and Anne Burchill. I sent for Willliam and Anne Wilkinson's marriage certificate and found they were married in 1890 in Schull and William was a Constable RIC.
Any leads on Millar, Wilkinsons Burchills, Chambers would be so appreciated! I would like to track down William Wilkinson's RIC records. It looks like that can be very expensive so if you have any insight would be very appreciated. I know Irish records are supposed to be hard to track down but I am amazed on what I have learned so far!
Thank you so very much! Barbara

Just found this on Durrus History blog:
May 15th 1866 Thomas Miller
Mary Chambers 26 21 B s L dairyman’s dau Carrrickbue Durrus Rusheenanashka William Miller Jonathan Chambers F dairyman James Phillips
David Burleigh
her markStill confusing because should be Thomas Millar but it seems it was often recorded as Miller. Also not sure about what Carrrickbue Durrus Rusheenanashka means.
Also I know one of Thomas and Mary Millars children came to the United States. Her name was Minnie Attridge Millar. Don't know where the Attridge comes in. I thought it might have been her mother's maiden name but so far it appears Mary's maiden name was Chambers. Attridge seems to have been a prominent name in Durrus?
This is a challenge to untangle! Very thankful for any help, Barbara

Thank you Frank,
Appreciate your reply. Still working away on finding my ancestors from West Cork. Recently found more on Mary Miller née Chambers. Her parents are Jonathan Chambers and Mary Attridge. They would have married around 1840 I think. They seemed to have been from dairy farmer familys in Durrus. Thank you, Barbara
