Reta, I will notify Maureen by replying to her old message
Rootsireland.ie has baptism records for 5 people with the name Robert Mahoney, do you have an estimated birth year for him?

Kia Ora,
Thanks very much for your help. I really appreciate your assistance. As with these thngs there is some disparity with dates but Robert O'Mahony was born in the city of Cork, 14th April either 1831 or 1833. He left when he was 15 and set sail araound the world. Im pretty sure Cork is for real as its on his gravestone here in Timaru. He married Mary O'Brien at age 25 in Hobart Town, Tasmania 7th July 1855. He was a close relative of the Irish patriot John O'Mahoney who died in America, I hope that this of some help to you.
Again, thank you,

Hello Reta,
My grandfather, James O'Mahony(dob1897 or 98'), came to the USA in 1921, my mom & grandmother came a year later. To the best of my knowledge, we don't have any Roberts, but the truth is I can't verify anything on that side besides by gt. grandparents- Patrick O' Mahony married Ellen Walsh possibly in 1889, here are their kids; MaryEllen b. 1890, Jane b.1893, Jerimah b.1896, James b.1898, Margaret b.1900, Theresa b.1901?, Julia b.1904, John b. 1906. Patrick's parents is supposed to be Thomas O'Mahony & Norah Cotter, but I haven't been able to prove this. They were suopposed to have come to the USA, late 1800swith all but Patrick. Thomas & norah's kids are supposed to be Michael, Patrick, Julia, John & Ellen. I can go back further, but I don't think any of it is correct. So I'm stuck going forwards & backwards, lol.
I don't think any of this helps you, but if you do, by all means come back. I also did DNA on 23&me and Ancestry, under Maureen Conway/Clinton.
Good luck with your search,
Maureen

Kia Ora Maureen,
Thanks very much for our quick reply. I sadly think that you are right, that I am not part of your family history. I have been keen to do the DNA test. How much did it cost you??? I may do it but depends on the money.
This geneology is certainly proving difficult. Have you ever gone to any of the O'Mahony Gatherings in Ireland??? I have years ago.
Well Maureen I wish you well. Thanks very much for your reply.
Best wishes.

Hello Reta,
I did DNA on 23& me and Ancestry...you can usually catch a sale for about $99. At some point when I have time this summer I'm going to trry and upload the DNA to FTDNA or Gedmatch...the 1st time I tried it wouldn't go through.
I live in the US so I haven't made it to any of the O'Mahony gatherings, but I do belong to the group and get the info. I hope to get to one some day.
My brother, Francis Conway, did 23 & me and we recently got a match from a Roy O'Mahony in Cork. He's young so was going to talk to his older relatives to see if we can find the connection. At this point DNA is my only hope, I've hit soooo many walls. My mom came to the states with her parents in the mid 1920s and after that I can't find any of the that family.
If you ever have any questions/suggestions, feel free to contact me.
Maureen
