In search of Catherine Cosgrove

I am researching an ancestor who came to Australia around the mid 1840s.  Her name was Catherine Cosgrove and she may have come to Australia as an Irish orphan.  She was born in 1832 to William and Sarah Ann Cosgrove.  In the Griffiths Valuation records for County Cavan, William has land in the Parish of Annagh. I would like to: verify the information that the property belongs to her father; find the parents marriage certificate; details of other family members; shipping records of journey to Australia.  Any assistance will be greatly appeciated.  Mary Dorrian

  • Hi Mary,

I believe that Griffith's in Cavan was completed in 1857.  If William was a head of household in Griffith's in 1857, then it seems Catherine could not have been an orphan in the 1840s.

As for William's marriage certificate, the only record would be a church record.  I searched on rootsireland for the marriage, with no findings.

Have you discovered any additional info since your posting in 2019?
