Thank you Jane, Emma & Paddy for the timely reply.  Yes, the Mich'l COLLINS of Ballyonan (so close to Collins cousins in Kilkee ) is a likely person of interest as my Maternal Gr-Grandfather especially since the 1827 Tithe Applotments also list an Anthony (known brother's name) and a Connor (Red) and two PURTILL's (possible spelling of John, Honora (Cornelius O'Brien), Anthony and Austin's Mother, Joanna Purcell / Purtill / Purtil along with two O'Brien's Pat & Thomas (surname of cousins). There is also a Michael Collins listed in Kilferagh in the 1855 Griffith's as well It wouldbe great to know of Collinses in the Kilkee area.  Austin lived on Albert Road inthe Hogan's Directory.   I have one cousin's son whom I could contact re: a genealogy blood test.  I believe it has to be a male. Correct?  If mine would help I would do so as well.  Could you please tell me what info he/ we would need to proceed?  Thank you for your interest and help. Jo Banks

You can expect one-eighth of your autosomal chromosomes to have come through your greatgrandfather Collins.

Your male Collins cousin(s) have a Y-chromosome which will have come in its entirety through their direct male line Collins ancestors.

Autosomal DNA analysis is available from either familytreeDNA.com (Family Finder) or AncestryDNA, either of which will give you a data file to upload to GEDmatch.com

It looks like Austin Collins disappeared from Albert Road between Hogan's Directory in 1842 and Griffith's Valuation in 1855.

I want to add my discovery of a 4th sibling: AUSTIN COLLINS, who definitely lived in Kilkee & is found in Hogan's 1842 directory along with other Collinses on ALBERT PLACE-he at #174.  He was a younger brother of my maternal Gr-Gr-Grandfather, MICHAEL COLLINS (husband of Joanna PURCELL), and his brother ANTHONY b. abt,.1798; buried 1844 Kilkee; and sister HONORA (CORNELIUS O'BRIEN), b abt 1798; d 1844 Kilkee, buried Kiltinnaun ( Banaha) . 

AUSTIN & MARY had at least 3 children: Anthony b 1834, Bridget b Aug. 2, 1837 and John b Jan 18, 1940. These dates were confirmed in St. Senan's records on my sister & my visit there as was the existence of Austin.  Unfortunately there were no marriage, death or cemetery records to go further.  I would be happy to share my knowledge of these families, including Anthony's Nancy Ann who married a Richard ENRIGHT of Kilkee, whose nephew was Rev. L. J. Enright of Kilkee,  a much beloved Davenport, Iowa priest, according to my Mother Annie Collins..  

These 3 along with at least 6 cousins emigrated in the early 1850s either through NY-Philadelphia or St. Louis to settle in Davenport, Iowa.  It was through death/cemetery records there ( between 1856 and 1917) that I learned of their connections: 6 were buried in St. Mary's Cemetery between 1889 and 1917.

I would truly like to meet some relatives of these Collinses-mostly to try to discover where my John was born-was it in or near Kilkee as were his cousins?.  Where did their parents Michael and Joanna live?  Did they move to Clare from Limerick or Cork?  Also, to hear stories of the kin who stayed in Kilkee.  When we were in Kilkee we did meet a John Collins who looked very much like our Grandfather, Richard Thomas, youngest son of John.  We posed by his Mother's famine soup pots.  But none of us knew enough to make the connection.
