The family name I'm researching is CONCANNON and these are the details I have so far.

Roger Concannon ( late of DUNMORE) Died before 1850
Francis Concannon  ( Son of Roger)
                                  Born - Ireland 1800 -1803
                                  Married-  Shoreditch London 1834
                                  Died - 1870 Shorditch London

As Francis was a Publican in London in 1850, he was made a Freeman of the City of London and his fathers (Roger) information was on this certificate.

I have also found an article in the 1830 Freemans Journal, of a ROGER Conncannon with regards to a court appearance concerning the RIBBONMEN.
Whether this could be the same Roger as ours I don't know. The name ROGER doesn't seem very common in Galway.
I'm hoping there may be some surviving Parish records. According to Francis Concannon workhouse records he was CATHOLIC.

I am planning to be in Galway for just two days in August and plan to visit Dunmore and a churchyard or two! So any further information would be gratefully received.

I would be happy to pay a researcher in Dunmore area to do some investigating before I come over.

Many thanks for your help.

  • Sandra:

The RC parish records for Dunmore start in 1833 and do not include death records. Below is a link to the Facebook page for Dunmore. I also added the Dunmore library info. Perhaps they can help with a local researcher.

    Addergole (New) Graveyard

    Addergole (Old) Graveyard

Church of Our Lady & St Nicholas

  • I had hoped to upload an image of the burial grounds referred to in my earlier post but teething issues with the site is preventing this. However if you zoom into the Dunmore area from the linked map I created a while ago the cemeteries/churches are there . Just right click on the arrow for the name.
