I am a senior and for many years have been trying to find the parents of my great, great grandfather Robert Campbell to no avail. According to his obituary, Robert was born in Longford, Longford County about 1823-25 and came to Canada and settled in Hamilton, Ontario about 1842. Robert died April 12th, 1873 at the age 48-49. I do not have a middle initial for his name. On the Hamilton 1852 Census in Robert's household is listed William Francis aged 7. On the 1861 Census is listed Elizabeth Francis aged 34. I'm wondering if there is a family connection there with Robert which may be a clue in our search. If you can help us in finding a birth and/or baptismal record for Robert Campbell and any relationship with the Francis family I will be eternally grateful.
Robert's Obituary also stated that his stepmother (no name given) took him at the age of 16 to the Methodist Church to be converted.I am unsure at which parish this occurred at but am interested in finding any record of his conversion as it may reveal his parents names.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
SIncerely,
Jane Campbell

Hello Jane, from the information in your query, I am certain that your Robert is the elder half-brother of William Campbell, my GG Grandfather. Their father was also named William and died in Longford in 1839. Robert’s stepmother and William’s mother was Frances Tanner, who died giving birth to William in 1837. I do not know the identity of Robert’s mother. You can write to me at brewstercampbell@yahoo.com for more details.
