I am a senior living near Toronto, Canada and I do not have a computer so my local librarian is helping me do some family research.

Do you have an obituary for Elizabeth "Eliza" Jones Campbell from Clongesh who married Thomas Campbell in 1824 at Templemichael.

According to their son Robert's obituary he had a stepmother in 1839, therefore we can only assume that Eliza died and Thomas remarried.

If you can even give us a record of the second marriage that would be great.

Many thanks.

Yours Sincerely,

Jane Campbell

    What was the religious denomination?

Let me know if you have not heard back in about ten days.

  • I would like to give my thanks to Roger McDonnell for his response to my inquiry re: Eliza Jones Campbell of Clongesh.

She married Thomas Campbell at Tempemichael in 1824 and we believe they were Church of Ireland. Their son Robert, (my great, great, grandfather) was converted at the age of 16 at the Methodist Church.

Further to Roger's response, so far we have not heard back from the liasion of the Killoe parish.

Thank you for your time on this.

  • Dear Jane:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out and your patience.

I have found the marriage record for the marriage of Thomas Campbell and Elizabeth Jones from 1824 and I'm attaching it to this post.

In addition, there are several children born to this couple and I attach their baptism records for you.  They were all Church of Ireland.

After 1830, there appeared to be another family with a father listed as Thomas Campbell and a mother listed as Ann Donoghue, but the children in this family were all baptised as Catholics.  I'm not sure if they are connected with your family or not.

There was no other record for Thomas Campbell having married again other than a Thomas Campbell marrying an Elizabeth Lennon in 1829 but he was listed as being previously unmarried.

I hope that the above is of some assistance to you.

The best of luck with your research.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
