Every year thousands of people of Irish descent return to Ireland to discover more about their Irish family history and to reconnect with their ancestral home. Since 2009 Ireland Reaching Out Volunteers have been meeting with visitors to their area, sharing their local knowledge of the community's heritage and helping them find out more about their ancestors.
Sometimes living relatives can be found, at other times all that remains of the ancestral origins is a vague local memory. However having a connection to place is ultimately what unites all people of Irish descent, and your connection to your ancestors place of origin in Ireland is treasured by the community still living in that place today.
If you are planning a trip to Ireland, and wish to meet an Ireland Reaching Out volunteer from the local area, simply post a message on the Ireland XO message board and explain your connection to the area and when you hope to visit. We will do our best to have one of our volunteers meet with you during your visit and, if possible, also to help you advance your family history research.
If you are have good local knowledge and are interested in meeting visiting Diaspora, click here to fill out our Volunteer registration form and we will get back to you with more details.
