This St Patrick’s Day is unlike any other in living memory, and it is with this in mind that the Government of Ireland has launched its virtual St Patrick’s Day hub, where Embassies and Consulates from across the globe can mark the occasion with members of the Irish community worldwide.
While Australia has escaped the worst of the pandemic, many of us have been faced with the reality that family members have remained 17,000 kilometres away, and with little opportunity to travel, it is more important than ever to celebrate our cultural offerings in order to maintain and strengthen our connection to home.
This St Patrick’s Day, the Consulate General of Ireland, Sydney, invites you to join us for a virtual celebration encompassing song, music and dance from local and Irish musicians, representing the very best of contemporary Irish culture, including Clannad, Denise Chaila, Saint Sister and the Prankqueans. The celebration will also include a special St Patrick’s Day message from An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, and a highlight of our recently launched ‘Generation Green’ project, which explores the stories and experiences of the latest Irish-Australians to reach adulthood.
The program will be streamed live from 5.30PM on Wednesday 17 March, and will remain available for playback following the launch.
