Descendant of Coscrach' (victorious); the name of a Wicklow family who were lords of Feara Cualann, comprising the manor of Powerscourt, until dispossessed by the o'Tooles and o'Byrnes (soon after the Cambro-Norman invasion).
Andrew ("Andy"), my husband's great grandfather, was born in County Wicklow in 1833 to Joseph and Mary (Kehoe) Cosgrove.
He was baptized at Tomacork Church near Croneyhorn.
The family emigrated to Canada West about 1842.
Andy's parents remained in Canada, but Andy and his wife Anna (O'Neil) moved to northern Iowa in 1868, where they homesteaded a farm.
Andy died there in 1909, his wife in 1930.
