Migrated to/Born in USA

Andy Dougherty was my great-grandmother Ellen Dougherty's brother.  He emigrated to Youngstown, Ohio, USA around 1887.

Few details are known.  He is rumored to have worked on a horse farm, and also in a steel mill.  It is also rumored that he traveled back and forth to Ireland several times and that he continued to correspond with a family by the name of "Brown".  Family lore says he came from Belfast.  We suspect he was born in County Down.

Alternate spellings include Daugherty, Doherty, and Dogherty.

  • Andrew baptised 15 May 1864 and Ellen baptised 17 Feb 1867 both Kircubbin, Ards Peninsula, Co Down, both the children of Thomas and Margaret Dorrian.  Can't locate a marriage record for Thomas and Margaret, unfortunately.  Andrew was actually born on 8th May and the address was recorded as Kirkistown (location of an Irish racing circuit). Can't locate a civil birth record for Ellen.
