Ann Meany was the daughter of Simon Meany and Bridget Butler who married 1818 in Thomastown RC parish, Kilkenny. Ann migrated to Adelaide, South Australia  as a single woman arriving 03 April 1858 via The NUGGET from Southampton. There were over 300 Irish immigrants on board.

She married William Nichols from Essex in Adelaide 12 Jan 1864. They had seven children, living in the Burra environs and buying a farm in Booborowie in the mid north of South Australia in 1875.

But William died in 1878, leaving her with young children under 13.  She continued to farm but alas was accidentally killed in a horse driven dray accident in 1881. The farm was sold, debts paid and the children were placed into service and with differing families. Their descendants now live in Western Australia, South Africa, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Queensland and New South Australia. Ann and William are buried in the Burra Cemetery.
