Anne Jane Johnston was born on March 12th 1868 in Fivemiletown, Tyrone, Northern Ireland to Thomas Johnston and Susan (Beatty) Johnston. Her parents were married in Aghalurcher, Fermanagh, Ireland on October 7th 1859. Susan's father is listed as John Beattty and Thomas' father is listed as Richard. According to Anne's marriage license both Thomas and Susan had died before 1899. The marriage was in Scotland. The family may have had relatives there and/or moved there. The surnames Johnston and Beatty seem to indicate that they were Ulster Scots and could be descendants of the Border Rievers who were depoted from Scotland to ireland during the reign of King James the first.
