Ann McGillen was born in Kilcoo about 1829 (parents unknown). She immigrated to the United States about 1848 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. Lived with her maternal aunt, Ann Timoney Carney and her husband James Carney. Married John O'Neill from Longfield East Parish, County Tyrone, in Chicago at Old St. Mary's Catholic Church on 1 January 1850. Ann and John had 6 children: James, Mary Anne, Alice, Margaret, Elizabeth and John.
