  • Ann or Anna Slowey (B circa. 1830) emigrated from Ireland, per the United States Census of 1860 in 1850.  She married Joseph Taylor in that same year.  They had two daughters, Rosanna Taylor (B: 21 Sept 1851 in Cleveland Ohio.  Roseann was baptized at St. John Cathedral, Cleveland Ohio USA  on 4 Oct 1851.  God parents were Michael Egan and Rose Egan) and Margarit Taylor (B: 25 Jan 1854 in Cleveland Ohio.  Margaret was baptized on 29 Jan 1854 also at St. John Cathedral, Cleveland, Ohio USA.  God parent was Sarah Bradley.

I have copies of records that show that Rosanna Taylor was sent by the Bishop of Cleveland to St. Joseph Orphanage, Clevenad Ohio in Oct 1856 at the age of 5 years.  Records show that Ann Slowey Taylor is the mother and Joseph (deceased) the father.  Roseann was returned to her mother Ann Slowy Taylor on 29 Jun 1863 (age 12).   Margaret was sent to the same orphanage on 1 Dec 1858 (two years later) the copy of the record has the same notation of Ann as the mother (living) and Joseph (deceased as the father.)  Margaret was returned to her mother on 1 Apr 1866.  I can track Ann Slowey Taylor via the 1860 US Census as well as the two girls. (Note: The American Civil War began 12 Apr 1861 and ended 13 May 1865.)

My next official record is a copy of the Cuyahoga County Deed Records that show Ann Slowey Taylor purchased land (known as Lot 116) from Harriette and Marianne Sterling, on 01 Dec 1868 and filed on 8 Jan 1869.  Real Estate Appraisal Records show that Ann Slowey Taylor completed construction of a two story home on this lot in 1870 (which still stands today).  The address was 179 Lawrence Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio USA.  It appeared that Ann Slowey Talyor utilized this home as a boarding house for Irish immigrants.  The home remained in Ann's name until she transferred title to her eldest daughter Rosann Taylor Mason and her husband Herman Gerhard Mason (the spelling may have been Masonn) 1890 for $1.00. Ann Slowey Taylor died on 4 Apr 1905 at the age of 75 at home (179 Lawrence Ave,, Cleveland, Ohio).  Roseann Taylor (D: 20 Apr 1914) and Herman Mason (D:29 Feb 1924) raised (5) children Margaret Jane (B:13 Jun 1874, D: 25 Oct 1946), Ann Anastasia (B: 29 Oct 1876, D: 17 Feb 1952), Rose Ann (B: Nov 1879, D: 11 Apr 1923), Edward Herman (B:11 Jul 1885 - D: 2 Feb 1952) and Mary Patricia (B: 8 Mar 1889, D: 29 Mar 1978) all in Cleveland , Ohio, USA.

This home address is linked  to (4) other Slowey's last residence in Co Monaghan; Margaret (Maggie), Bernard, Elizabeth and Patrick Slowey as shown in the USA Immigrant Databse from the website (Claires-rosleaancestry-co.uk/USA, on page 4).  Bernard, Elizabeth and Patrick Slowey sailed aboard the ship 'Furnessia' on 9 Sept 1898 from Londonderry to New York  with thier final destination of 179 Lawrence Ave., Cleveland Ohio.  The home of Ann Slowey Taylor. Margaret (Maggie) Slowey sister of Bernard, Elizabeth and Patrick immigrated from Ireland on 14 Jun 1897 (two years prior) from Londonderry aboard the ship 'Furnessia'.  I believe these (4) Slowey siblings were the children of Francis Slowey  (1842 - 1898) and Margaret Smyth.

I am certain these (4) Slowey's are related to Ann Slowey who is my fraternal GG Grandmother.  My Dad had little memory of her but retold the story that she was from 'Derry' in Northern Ireland.  I so want to connect to her heritage.  I have a family tree on Ancestry.com (Mason Minarczik).  If you think you might be related email me (marthalee16@verizion) or Facebook me on Martha Lee Florida.  I will gladly share my tree and DNA results.
