Bernard Curran 1824

Bernard Curran 1824

Back to List

Bernard Curran came to the U.S. we think on the Jamestown, arrival date 8 Jul 1848. Other passengers were a Brian and John Curran. Bernard at some point moved to San Francisco and apprenticed as a cutter and became a tailor in San Francisco. I have a newspaper advertisement and business card stating "B. Curran Merchant Tailor, Men's clothing and Furnishing Goods, No. 214 Montgomery Street, Platt's Music Hall. N. B. Army and Navy Uniforms made to order." We know that he married Elizabeth O'Neill and had several children, one of which was my great great grandmother Mary Ellen Francis Curran (married Castle). I have been searching since 2006 for any information about his parentage and place of birth. On his death certificate it states that he is from Tyrone, Ireland. This is also where his wife Elizabeth O'Neill is from. I understand that Curran and O'Neill are very common names in Ireland, but would appreciate any help in finding out more information.
