  • Boetius McGillicuddy born in 1798 is in my family tree he was married to Johanna Crowley Sullivan.  However all that I can find about him is after he arrived in North America.  If anyone has any information on him or his wife while they were still in Ireland, I would love to discuss it.

    Cheers

  • BMcGillicuddy:  Boetius is my 2nd greatgrandfather.  He died of typhoid fever, in Boston and is buried in the North Cambridge Roman Catholic Cemetery, Boston, , Massachusetts.  His wife purchased half of the cemetery lot and Philip Coffey (my 2nd great granduncle) the other half.  I have tried for years to get Boetius and Johanna back to Ireland, without much luck.  Before she died, my Aunt Margaret said the family came from Tralee, and she frequently sang "The Rose of Tralee".  Johanna and her children moved to Bay County, Michigan circa 1865, and she died there in 1879.  My Aunt Margaret ( who remembered everything!!) said that Johanna had to take their oldest son, Jeremiah, back to Ireland - she never gave me a reason or timeframe.  The family moved to Providence, Rhode Island sometime in the 1860s.  I can not locate Johanna nor Jeremiah in the 1870 Federal Census.  The only guess I can make for a reason to take Jeremiah back to Ireland would be somehow connected to the death of Richard McGillicuddy,Chief of the Clan, in 1866. Jeremiah was the oldest son, and if his father, Boetius, was an oldest son, there might be some heraldry involved.  Boetius and Johanna's oldest known child was born in New Brunswick, Canada in 1832 and their second child was born in 1834 in Boston.  I do not know if these snippets of information will give you some ideas of how to connect this family to a place/family in County Kerry, Ireland.    Judy
