  • Apologies, original information supplied should state Bridget's father as 'Thomas Jackson' not 'Thomas Boyle'.

Hi Eric,I  thInk we may both be researching the same family .

My research so far has brought me back to my great great grandfather Thomas Jackson of Dunlavin Co Wicklow, but that's where my research hits a brick wall .

My  great grandfather  also Thomas Jackson married Mary Nolan in Dunlavin Co Wicklow on Jan 31st 1874. On their marrige licence ,it lists Thomas's father as  Thomas Jackson   Blacksmith from Dunlavin ( Deceased ).

Could this Thomas Jackson (who we know died pre 1874) be the father of Mary Bridget Jackson ?

I have attached a link of the marrige cert at top of page, which I hope you can open.

Let me know your thoughts and any questions you may have, and  we may be able to help each other .

    Kind Regards Paul Jackson

Hi Paul, thanks for the further details.

Yes it looks like we both share the same lineage here with Thomas Jackson being my 2nd great grandfather!

I have also hit a brick wall once I get to him, although I may have some further information that I am happy to share.

So my great grandmother (Bridget Mary b.1859) was sister of your great grandfather (also Thomas b.1847 - baptism 3 Oct), and other siblings were Mary (b.1848), Anne (b.1851), Catherine (b.1853), Susan (b.1855), and Elizabeth (b. 1857) - there may be more, but I have not found any others yet.

Bridget Mary's wedding certificate also states her father Thomas as a Blacksmith and deceased.  I previously had a possible death date for Thomas of between 1857 and before 1886 - so thanks for the additional information, we now know it was before 1874).

I also found an entry in Griffith's Valuation (1847-1864) identifying Thomas as a named tenant of a small dwelling with 'forge' in Toberbeg townland of Dunlavin.  Turns out the building is still there when I search for it using Google Maps using the plot location details provided in Griffith's Valuation.

I also have Joseph and Elizabeth (Eliza) Conneran marriage as 24 Sep 1846, in Clonmore, county Wicklow.   I believe Elizabeth died on 27 July 1908 (in Toberbeg, Dunlavin) - she is recorded in 1901 census as widow, living alone.

My family tree is located on Ancestry, so happy to share this with you if you have access.

Hope the above sheds some more light for you, and please keep in touch and let me know if you uncover anything further.

    Best regards - Eric.
