In March 1955, this photo (black & white by Dorothea Lange) appeared in 'Life' magazine with the caption:

"Shopkeeper Bridget Wylde makes her living selling small things - chocolate bars, a box of matches, a quarter ounce of snuff in store founded by her father some 65 years ago. The Irish seldom shop for price but stick to stores that suffer bills never wholly paid off."

This historical gem was curated by historian Jackie Elger of The Vintage Lens on www.facebook.com/catbeagbooks/
