  • This is a speculative entry. Any member who can help inm my further research..I would be eternally grateful.

I have evidence of a marriage between a Catharina Walsh born 1800-1810 (probably Ballymacormick) and a British soldier (a Richard Sear sometimes recorded as Sare or Seer) from Eversholt in Bedfordshire, England born 1796 who was serving in the 14th Regiment of Foot) in Ireland.

The marriage, I belive, took place c 1826 probably in Ballymacormick (Longford). They had a daughter Sarah Miles Sear born July 1828 and baptised at the parish church of Templemichael and Ballymacormick, Longford.

I have not been able to locate the birth/ baptism of Catharina Walsh which is my 'mission'.

Richard Sear was transferred to Jamaica with his regiment c 1828/9 and with his wife lived in Barracks near Kingston (Jamaica). Here they had another child Thomas born 1830.

Thomas was my gggrandfather. I wish to find out more about Catharina/Catherine. Richard and Catherine returned to England to Eversholt, Bedfordshire in 1832. He was invalided out of the army.  Whilst I have the forward history/records of Richard's life and of course his son Thomas I have not been able to trace Catherine's life in Bedfordshire. I beli eve she must have died (although I can not positively locate any burial record or in fact if she sailed back to England with Richard in 1832).   Richard is recorded marrying a Sarah Taylor in 1833 in a nearby village called Aspley Guise in Bedfordshire and a child born to them named Elizabeth Sear born 1833/4 locally.    I wish to find out more specific detail about Catherine including her excat baptism date.  Could be 1805 as per the entry above.      I would be grateful for any contact and to share whatever information I have about the family history.

(Note. The army records and movements of Richard Sear were all traced and recorded from records held at the National Archives at Kew over six months detailed investigation)
