Catherine (known as Ka) went to England for work when she was 14 years of age. There she met and married William Andrew John Groves in 1947 and moved to Auckland, New Zealand where she had three children and died. She had two sisters and a brother: Maureen, Betty and Owen. Her parents were John O'Neill and Catherine (née Burke).
