Charles McDermott lived in Ballinrobe, Mayo, Ireland. He was captain of his own sea-going vessel and died at sea in 1850. His wife's name was Mary and they had at least three children, Thomas, Patrick, and Mary. Thomas was the oldest and born about 1844. In 1854 Mary and the three children immigrated to the United States moving to Urbana, OH.
Mary's maiden name may have been Lynskey.
