Coleman Joyce was born on Lettermore Island, Oughterard, Galway Ireland to Thomas Joyce and Bridget (Connelly) Joyce. He left Ireland on the ship Cymric and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, United States on 28 May 1914. In 1917 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Devens which was a United States Army military installation in the towns of Ayer and Shirley, in Middlesex County and Harvard in Worcester County in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. After he was discharged he married Ann Loughlin (she was a laundress on the base) on 28 October 1918 at St. Peter & Pauls Catholic Church in Boston, MA. They would go on to have eight children, however, one son died of sudden infant death (SIDS) when he was only one year old . Their eldest child was my Nana, Mary Agnes Joyce who was born in 1919. Coleman died in Dorchester, Massachusetts of Esophageal Cancer on 5 October 1953 leaving behind his wife and seven children.
