  • Have you ever visited Ireland and met any Coyle descendants or relatvies of Cornelius?  Do you know where this Clondavaddog actually is?  Have you visited any gravesites?  Do you have any local Irish contacts who know anything about the Coyle family?

    Thank you!  Barb

  •  Barbara, Hi I was scrolling through and just happen to see this. I don't know the name Cornelius but I don't know all the Coyle names either. If you did a DNA test my number is A960797 Mary Martin. I have talked to Paddy Coyle but never got the chance to meet him when I was over. My Cousin Martin knows him well. He is a volunteer on here for the part of Ireland you are interested in. My Martins lived in Ballynalost, The Cannon's in Ballymichael, not sure what part the Coyle's lived. The section in Donegal know as Fanad  it is close to Fanad Lighthouse a lovely place if you have a chance to visit. Clondavaddog is the Parish that these sections are in but there are many other places with that Parish. Your best move would be to post on here and ask if someone can help you with your research, that would be Paddy Coyle since this is his area. I looked for Cornelius born around 1823 on Irish Genealogy but no luck from that time period.  You  might be able to get a record from the church that hold themm now . St. Mary's

  • Hi, Barb, I forgot you asked about Clovadadog that was the Parish where Ballynalost and Ballymichael are located. I don't know what other sections would of been in that parish but you can google it. Massmount is where the Martins, Fries, Carrs and Cannons are buried. All the church records are suppose to be in St. Mary's now in Ballynalost.

  • Is this where I post to contact a researcher?  If so:

Would love to hear from Paddy Coyle in county Donegal.  We are visiting in late July and think that our ancestor, Cornelius Coyle was from this area (Clovadadog).  I was told you are a researcher in the area.

If you have any records that might show when he was born in the mid 1820s - anytime between 1823 and 1829.  He migrated to the US around 1851 and married Bridget McCaffrey in the US.  Any info on the McCaffrey family would be great, too.  I know less about that family and where they lived.

Thank you for any info that could be helpful.  I have contacted St Mary's but they have nothing in their records.

  • Hi, I am not a researcher , I just like helping if I can. Just Post on here as you have don't use Paddy Coyle name because other researchers might think you were working with him and if he is away they will leave message for him.

Just put Clonvadadog Parish looking for Cornelius Coyle born 1823 to 1828, I woud say 1820 to 1830 myself. Left Donegal for USA in 1851.

I saw records that you have on Family Search but nothing on the irish site some are pd. sites so the researchers can help you there.

I will send a note to Paddy maybe he can help you before July.

  • Hello Barbara,

Could I recomend that you might post a query this up in the Clondavaddog message board. It is by far the better method of asking for advice as only brief comments can be added in ancestor profiles and the majority of times queries such as these will go unnoticed. Kind Regards
