  • Are there any other details you can share? Cornelius jr's spouses, children, whereabouts?

www.irishgenealogy.ie has a few records for Cornelius Crowleys of Macroom. I have tracked a few Sullivans of Macroom/Coachford but do not confirm having this Cornelius or his parents in my spreadsheet.

  • There is record of a Dec 1838 birth in Castletown Bere to parents Jeremiah Crowley and Anna Sullivan.

Also a marriage of a Cornelius Crowley to a Catherine Sullivan on 7 Feb 1864 in Bere Island, Castletown, Cork, found on www.irishgenealogy.ie. Castletown folk are sailors. Coachford folk are dairy farmers.

Coachford is further west towards Cork. I can't find the button to attach files to IrelandXO comments.

  • My Cornelius on his marriage record and Emigant Saving Bank record lists his parents as Cornelius Crowley and Kate Sullivan.  He had a sister Mary born 1824 at Coachford to the same named parents. Her baptismal record was found on Rootsireland. She came to USA too. Cornelius married Bridget Shea(n) in 1867 in Newark NJ USA. Her parents were Daniel Shea and Mary Mahoney. No further info on her.

  • Carol, Here are some things to look at:

Checked the Griffith's Valuation and the census for Crowleys. Crowleys of Nadrid, Coachford, Magourney are on Griffith's including at least one Cornelius. There are a few Sullivans too. The Griffith's page has a cool map feature. There is even a Crowley family in Nadrid Coachford Magourney on the 1901 & 1911 censi. 1901 Timothy Crowley 32 with mother Hanora Crowley 60 widow. In 1911 this family numbers 6 people: Tim 45, wife Bridget 36, kids Hanora Maria, Timothy J & John, Hanora, mother, widow age 81. It looks like this Hanora died in 1919 age 91 in Nadrid with son Tim reporting. Interesting age differences--very Irish. Tim died Dec 1955 age 89, widower, son John reporting. Nadrid address! These could be your cousins! A Finbarr Crowley lives in Aglish, Coachford according to the phone directory. Maybe the Coachford Historic Society can tell you more. acrheritage@gmail.comhttps://acrheritage.info/historic-graves/

The 1901 census aslo has Ann Crowley 56 widow with son Denis Crowley 25 in Coachford town. An 83 yo Denis Crowley also in Coachford town. I did not have great luck tracing them at irishgenealogy.ie.

    http://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSea…

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cork/Magourney/Nadrid/…;

This Timothy may be son of TImothy Crowley and Johanna Driscoll. Born in Inchigeela in 1867. Or son of Denis Crowly & Johanna Twomey of Kilcullen, Clonmoyle born in 1866. Tim's marriage doc would list his father.

Other Crowleys nearby to look at:

Cornelius b 5 May 1864 to Jeremiah Crowley & Mary Lynch. Desertsegert, Slivereigh, Macroom.

Cornelius b 28 Nov 1865 to John Crowley & Julia Lynch. (Rathvena? Rahona?), Ballyvourney, SLivereigh, Macroom. Timothy b to Jeremiah C & Margaret Mullane of Rahuna March 1874.

Cornelius Crowley of Dunmanway married Hanora Lynch of Inchigeela 14 Feb 1893 in Inchigeela Macroom.

Cornelius Crowley of Knockraur married Eliza O'Connell of Kilmartyrna 14 Feb 1893 in Stuake, Clonmoyle, Macroom. He was a widower. Father was Jeremiah

Mary Crowley of Knockraur married Timothy Coakley of Ballyvodane 20 June 1922 in Aghabullogue, CLonmoyle, Macroom. Her father was Cornelius Crowley.

Denis Crowley of Aghabullogue, Coachford, Macroom m Nora Riordan of Shanakiel April 1921. He was a son of Cornelius.

There are Crowlys in the cemetery at Magourney. https://historicgraves.com/graveyard/magourney/co-mory. Even a Cornelius at the Kilmurry cemetery from 1773.

  • Hello, I found a baptismal record for a  Cornelius Crowley 29 Oct 1833 to parents Cornelius O'Crowley and Catherine Sullivan. His sister with the same parents b. 1824 in Cork found in Coachford on Rootsirelandie.   Both Cornelius and sister Mary have their parents listed as Cornelius and Kate Sullivan in the Emigrant Savings Bank records NY and on their marriage records to Bridget Shea and for Mary James Touhy. Is it possible that Cornelius would have listed his birthplace as County Cork rather than Kerry? I searched online and  found that the dioceses for Kerry and Cork changed back and forth. Cornelius's baptismal record was not found in  Coachford. Kerry records are not available on  Rootsirelandie. Any assistance on this is greatly appreciated

  • I am searching for a connection to a Cornelius Crowley based on Y-DNA matches to reported most distant ancestor matches.

My known Crowley family line starts with 2nd great grandfather Bartholomew Crowley born c 1840 who married (Mary) Ellen Forde  29 Nov 1861 Inniscarra Parish register. I believe that Bartholomew Crowleys father may have been Jeremiah. I can find a Jeremiah Crowley living by the Dripsey Paper Mill in Griffiths. His mother may have been Julia (Coleman?)

My great grandfather James Bartholomew Crowley was baptized Mar 1863, Inniscarra, he later married Margaret Cronin, who was baptised  April 1863 Aghinagh RC Parish, Aghabulloge. They were married in 1889 in Pawcatuck, Stonington, Connecticut.

James B had three sisters and one brother with Civil registrations for births after 1865:

Mary born 11 Sept 1865  civil registration address is "Ahareenah" (Agharinagh), Inniscarra. Baptism 17 Sept 1865 address Hallissy Cross, Inniscarra witnesses Patrick Callaghan and Mary Leary, ***She married Denis Cronin, first cousin to Margaret Cronin above**

Catherine born 13 April 1868 civil address Ahareenah, Inniscarra. Baptism 26 Apr 1868 address Agharinagh, Inniscarra parish witnesses Denis Ford and Hannah Callahan (rootsire)

Ann born 22 May 1870 civil address Clonmoyle.  Baptism 26 May 1870 Clonmoyle, Coachford witnesses John Ford and Hannah Radly (rootsire)

Jeremiah born 31 Aug 1872 civil address Ahareenah, Inniscarra. Baptism 8 Sept 1872 Hallissys Cross, Inniscarra. Witnesses Jeremiah Forde and Honora Lenihan (rootsire)

All of the children emmigrated 1882 (James, Mary,Ann, Catherine) -1892 (Jeremiah) and lived in the Pawcatuck, Stonington, Conn area.

Several members of the Cronin family emmigrated at this time as well. My great grandmother Margaret Cronin and her sisters Hanora (Nora), Ellen and Mary were born in Derryroe,Kilberrihert, Aghinagh RC parish in Aghabullogue.

I am visiting the area March 2020 and would like to explore graveyards in the Inniscarra area. I have not found the deaths for Bartholowmew and Ellen Crowley. Bartholomew is frequently mispelled and Ellen is too common. Any help locating them would be greatly appreciated, I believe they remained in Ireland (most likely in Inniscarra parish area) and passed 1882-1892 based on the dates of their childrens departure.

So far, I plan on trying graveyards in Dripsey-Coachford-Macroom area : Ballincollig, Magourney, and possibly Mathey and St Senan. I have already looked in the graveyard in Agharinagh by the Dripsey Ambush site. (another Cronin- connected relative was John Lyons of the Dripsey Ambush). Any specific cemeteries that you would recommend?

    Thank you in advance!

  • CKathy,

Have you seen Henchion's book "Donoughmore and All Around"? a Forde family at grave 244 in Stuake, the Donoughmore New Cemetery includes a Sheila Crowley, dau of Tim J & Ellen (Murphy) Forde, who married Tadgh Crowley. Sheila and Tadgh were of Clonakilty and had children Ted & Michael. THere are a few other Crowleys, Cronin and Fordes but none I could find in the places you mention.
