David Dunning was born circa 1831 in County Down. On his death certificate it is stated that his father was Alexander Dunning, a farmer, and his mother was Margaret //. David emigrated to New South Wales, Australia, around 1853 but the emigration records have not been found. On 13th April 1856 he married Bridget Bergin, a native of Coolgreany Gowran, Kilkenny, Ireland who was aged 21, (baptized 11 Jan 1835).  They were married in the Roman Catholic Church at West Maitland NSW. They had 12 children, William John 1857, Alexander 1858,  James 1859, Eliza Jane 1861, Alice Mary 1863, Margaret Isabella 1864, Henry Thomas 1867, Bridget May 1869, David John 1870, Agnes 1873, Anastasia 1876, and Joseph Samuel 1879, all born in the Maitland area of NSW. 

David's wife Bridget died  on 23 Nov 1902  in Paterson NSW and was buried in the Paterson Cemetery with her daughter Ages who died in 1882. 

David died on 27 Jun 1908  at Bona Vista, Paterson near Maitland, and was buried in the Paterson Cemetery NSW. 

We know that David had a brother Samuel born about 1842 in County Down, Ireland. Samuel emigrated to the United States in 1865, and married Sarah Ann Campbell in 1871 in Stamford Conneticut USA. After Sarah died in 1877, Samuel returned to Ireland with his two children, Charles and Alice, then went to NSW to join his brother David Dunning in 1880. Samuel died in Maitland NSWin 1890.
