The 1641 deposition of James Wallis | Ireland | VIEW SOURCE |
Donnell O Tohell is an inhabitant of Stradbally mentioned in the 1641 deposition of James Wallis. Wallis was renting Woodhouse off the Fitzgerald family, but he was thrown out of the manor by rebelling Catholics. Many landowners lost property in the 1641 rebellion and the 1641 depositions ( made available online by Trinity College Dublin at http://1641.tcd.ie/index.php ) are records of their girevances: what they lost, what it was worth, any violence they were subjected to, and the individuals responsible. Wallis' deposition suggests that he recognised a few of his neighbours. He identifies a Donnell O Tohell of Woodhouse, who was a miller.
