Edmond O'DEA was born in Feb, 1786 in Annaghdown, Galway, Ireland (No birth record extant; data from U.S. Declaration of Intention 1852). He married Bridget COEN, daughter of Patrick COEN and Margaret FINNERTY, ca.1817 in County Galway, Ireland. He immigrated on Apr 23, 1849 aboard the Barque "Messenger", New York, NY (MC237, roll 70, #314).[i]
He was a Sawyer on the U.S. Federal census of 1 June 1850 in West Brookfield, Worcester County, MA He died on Aug 12, 1863 in West Brookfield, Worcester, MA, at age 77.[ii] He was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester, Worcester, MA (Buried X).[iv]
His will, probated in Worcester County in June 1864, mentioned six surviving children: Michael, Edmond, Patrick, Catherine, Dennis and Bridget. All were born in Ireland. [v
By 1864 Michael, Dennis and Bridget had moved to California, Edmond and Catheriine (now Mrs. Richard Flynn) remained in West Brookfield as did Patrick's family, but he active duty in the U.S. Army, fighting for the Union in Florida.
