Edward Foley was a miner born circa 1808 and died on February 13, 1882 at Clonbrock. His wife was Margaret Anne Franey (daughter of Andrew Franey and Mary Elliott) and they had six children: James, Patrick, Timothy, Bridget, Mary, and Margaret. James, Patrick, and Timothy emigrated to Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania in the 1860s-1870s. My gggrandfather was Edward Foley, born probably 1822-1830.  His parents were listed at the parish marriage registry in LaSalle, IL (1857) as John Foley and Ellen Cavanagh.  The connection here is Edward emigrated originally to Schuylkill County, PA.  He was listed in the 1850 census as a miner.  He applied for citizenship in 1854 in PA.  He became a citizen in 1860 in LaSalle.  We believe he died in 1863 in LaSalle.

Emigrants were known to follow relatives and friends.  I've been told Edward was not a common name and I'm hoping your Edward could be a brother or cousin of my John Foley.  My assumption has always been John was probably born 1790-1810.

I will spend some time looking through County Laois parish registers looking for connections.
