Elizabeth (née O'Malley) Irwin 1770

Elizabeth O’Malley (1770–1840)  of Newcastle was a direct descendant of Gráinne Mhaol [Granuaile] aka Grace O'Malley (c.1530 – c.1603) and, through her, Owen O'Malley of Burrishoole (c1650-1738). Her family is remembered in the roofless side chapel at Murrisk Abbey.

 

In the winter of 1798, she married John Irwin Esq. (1762-1842) and raised a family at Camlin House, Ballinameen, Co. Roscommon.

In 1840, she died age 70 (survived by her husband, John Irwin Esq. who died in May 1842). Their eldest son, John Irwin III died two months later in July 1842. His infant son (John Irwin Jr) inherited the Camlin estate. (At the time of Griffith's Valuation in 1857, the representatives of John Irwin Jr., a minor, were leasing a house at Camlin, valued at £14, to James Badger).
