Migrated to/Born in USA

I'm after any info regarding Ellen Cavanagh who was born in Thurles, Tipperary, Ireland in 1839/40.

Her father was called John and her birth mother was maybe Bridget Barragry. But on her death certificate, Ellen named her mother as a Mary. John and Bridget Barragry don't seem to have ever married, but I think Bridget was on an 1855 census, living in England with her sister. Also it looks like John Cavanagh and Bridget Barragry had a son named John in about 1841/42.

I have found an Ellen and John Jnr. Cavanagh and Barragry being baptised in Cappawhite, Tipperary, Ireland. Ellen must of gone to USA in about 1846-1854, because we know she married a Charles/Carl/Christian,etc - Peterson/Pettersson/Pedersen,etc on the 22nd August 1855 in Troy, Rensselaer, New York, USA. The marriage records were burnt in a fire years ago, but most of their children's birth certificates, have Troy, New York, 1855/1856 printed on them.

In January 1856 they arrived in Melbourne, Australia from USA on the ship named Gertrude. Therefore, marriage in 1856 is incorrect and August 1855 seems correct.

Charles Peterson was buried in 1895 in Victoria, Australia as a Presbyterian. We can't find them in any other Catholic Church records from August 1855 in Troy, Rensselaer, New York, USA, so maybe they got married in a Presbyterian church. Although Ellen Cavanagh would most likely have been Roman Catholic. So, we really need to know who Ellen Cavanagh's parents names were 100% and did John Snr. and John Jnr. go to USA with Ellen and did John Cavanagh Snr. marry an Irish girl named Mary in Ireland or did they meet on the ship or in the USA. Also did John Jnr. marry once old enough in the USA and if so, to whom.

Thank you everyone for your time and help in advance and we hope to get some more info back soon, regards, Mark Peterson.

PS: Both Ellen Peterson (née Cavanagh) and Charles Peterson died in Victoria, Australia and had many children.
