Ellen is my great grandmother so most of my stories come from my grandmother, Mary Gladys (O'Sullivan) Bertrand. Ellen was born to James Hanrahan and Maria Fleming in Loughill, Glin, Shanagolden Parish, County Limerick, Ireland. Her father, James Hanrahan was a National School Teacher. She was baptised on 10 Jun 1858 in Loughill, Limerick, Ireland. I find her first in census in 1881 in Haslingden, Lancashire, England. She was working as the Principal of St. Peter's Catholic school in Staybridge, England which according to paperwork in my private collection shows she was working there in 1879. I don't know when she started working in England. On 21 April 1885, she married James O'Sullivan of Knochnagashel, County Kerry, Ireland. Where they met or how they met is unknown to me. They married at St. Patricks Catholic Chapel in Toxeth Park, Lancaster, England. There children were as follows:

Ellen died in Rockaway Beach, Queens, New York while visiting my grandmother who had moved to New York. She is buried in an unmarked grave.
