Son of Eugene (a.k.a Owen) Pathe (1860 - 1955 Detroit), born Drumalough, Castlereagh, Co.Roscommon and Anastasia (Pathe) O'Sullivan (1867 - 1963 Detroit), born Waterford, Co.Waterford.

Michael was one of 12 children.

He was raised in Carrigahorig, Co.Tipperary and educated in Terryglass and Mungret College, Limerick.
He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1910 aboard the Lusitania where he studied for the Priesthood. He was ordained in 1916 (CssR).

In 1923 his parents emigrated to Detroit, followed in 1924 by the bulk of his siblings.
In 1929 he returned to Ireland, when he wrote and published his book " A Summer in Ireland" Cantwell Press,Madison, Wisconsin 1931.

He was joined in the U.S. by two brothers as ordained Priests, both of whom joined the U.S. Forces as Chaplains.
