Migrated to/Born in Australia
George Marks was born circa 1829 in Waterford. He was imprisoned several times in the 1840's and prison records suggest that he might be from Portlaw. In 1851 he was sentenced to transportation to Australia. On his convict records he makes no mention of his parents, only two brothers Henry, in Manchester at that time and William in Waterford at that time. I would love to know more about this family and particularly who George, Henry and William's parents were. He died while working as a lighthouse keeper on Goose Island just off Tasmania. It now looks like George is also related to Patrick Marks who married Catherine Foley in 1854 in Waterford.
