Gideon Ouseley was born in Dunmore, County Galway on the 24th of Februay 1762.
Although his father wanted him to become a priest, Ouseley married at 20 years old. He led a wild, lavish lifestyle, even losing an eye in a tavern brawl.
Ouseley's life changed dramatically when he was converted by a group of English Methodists in 1791. He went from hedonism to religious fervour. He embarked on an evangelical mission to help other convert to the Methodist church as he had. He travelled the country on a white horse preaching the gospel. He published works on religious teachings. His command of the Irish language meant that he was able to preach to the poorer people of Ireland, something which the English Methodists could not accomplish.
Ouseley died in Dublin on the 14th of May, 1839.
