Helena Catherine Weldon nee Helena Catherine Flynn AKA Ellen Catherine Flinn in the Enniskerry Catholic Church record.
Emigrated alone to New York in June 1896 with 2 bags on the steamship Majestic out of Queensgate. Born on November 13, 1880 to Rebecca McArdle (born Nov 6 1857), and Walter Flynn in Openshaw, Manchester England. The Manchester birth record showed her father’s occupation a van driver and her mother signed the birth certificate as Rebecca Flynn. We believe Helena was met in New York by her uncle Edward H. McArdle.
Her mother, Rebecca McArdle, left Manchester and had Helena baptized a year later in Enniskerry on December 5, 1881. Her mother later married Patrick O'Brien in Enniskerry on March 3, 1891. Helena would have been 10 years old. Shortly thereafter, Rebecca and Patrick left for New York leaving Helena behind with grandma Rebecca McArdle, who passed away in February 1895 of cancer of the uterus at the age of 59. Rebecca and Patrick had a son: William O'Brien was born on May 25,1893 in Port Chester NY. We do not know what happened to Rebecca McArdle or Patrick O’Brien; it is a mystery.
William, Helena’s half-brother, was found to be living with Catherine McArdle and Patrick Joseph Wogan from the 1905 New York census. Catherine was Rebecca McArdle's younger sister who married a bootmaker from Enniskerry, Patrick Joseph Wogan, in 1914. If anyone knows what happened to Helena’s mother, Rebecca, from the time she gave birth to William in May 1893 till he was found living with Catherine McArdle in 1905, please add to this story.
