Henry Close (1819-1906), son of Michael Close and Susan Geddes/Geddis married Jane Gunning (1818-1886), daughter of James Gunning and Charlotte Smylie at Newtownards First Presbyterian Church on 20 Dec 1840. Their first daughter Susan was baptised the day before. Their second daughter Charlotte was born 20 Oct 1842 and baptised at the same church. As far as I can work out three sons, Henry b.1845, James b. 1846 and Joseph b. 1853 were born in Ireland though I can't find birth records for them. Jane b. 1855 and my ancestor William John Leech Closs b. 1859 were born in Glasgow from whence the family migrated to New Zealand in 1861.
Henry and Jane's birth dates are from their death records and the 1861 Scotland census but I can't find birth records for them in Scotland or Ireland. When Jane Gunning's brother Samuel was born in 1829 the family lived at St Peters Hill, Shankill Road, Belfast. Henry's brothers James and William were born in Ayrshire, Scotland.
