BIRTH
Hugh Crean was born in 1800 as calculated from information in his death record. A property record provided the suspicion that he may have been born in Knockglass Beg Townland, Kilgobban Civil Parish, Cappaclogh Catholic Parish, County Kerry, Ireland. The name of the Diocese was Ardfert and Aghadoe (Kerry). As of 2021, his parents were unknown.
MARRIAGE
Hugh married Johanna Fynn, probably about 1830. (There was no evidence that a woman named Elizabeth, born about 1828, was their daughter.) Their first child, known as of 2021, was born in 1831. All baptismal records and marriage records of the children, found as of 2021, gave locations in Roman Catholic parishes.
FAMILY
Hugh and Johanna had a large family of, perhaps, seven children. Martin Crean was born in 1842 and married Ellen Dowd in 1870. They lived in Camp Townland. Patrick Crean was born in 1843 and married Catherine Courney in 1867. They lived in Annascaul Townland. Both of the sons were married in Roman Catholic chapels. Their residences were about six miles apart. The brothers may have been in contact with one another throughout their married lives.
PROPERTY AND OCCUPATION
In Hugh's name in 1851 were two houses, offices, and a 40-acre plot of shared leased land -- located in Knockglass Beg Townland. Knockglass had a small, "beg," section and a larger, "more," section. His property was on the east side. (An estimate of his share of the land was 25%. He leased out a house to a Farmer.) Hugh, himself, was a Farmer.
DEATH
Hugh Crean died on February 26, 1873 in Knockglass Beg Townland, Kilgobbin Civil Parish, Cappaclogh Catholic Parish, County Kerry, Ireland. The Informant was a person named Thomas Crean who identified his relationship as "occupier." The same, or a different Thomas Crean, leased property in nearby Camp Townland.
BURIAL
As of 2021 no gravesite for Hugh Crean had been found. It was speculated that Hugh Crean and Johanna Fynn Crean may have been buried in Kilgobbin Graveyard. Although it was affiliated with the Church of Ireland, Roman Catholics were also buried there since they required sacred ground for burials of the baptized. It was also speculated that Johanna and Hugh Crean may have been buried in the Rathduff Graveyard.
