Looking for any information on my GGgrandfather Hugh McHugh (~1795-~1850), his wife Catherine Keon (~1798-~1850), and their 8 children: John  (1821-1897),  Mary ("May") (1822- 1887), Sally (~1825-?), James (1827-1910), Catherine (Quealy) (1830-1910), Andrew (~1834-1915), Bernard/Barny (~1836-1906), and Patrick (~1838-1908), all of Fermanagh.

Catherine Keon's family of origin, including parents James Keon and Elizabeth Morris and 8 children, is covered in a separate post here for James Keon.

Hugh's children's names suggest that Hugh's parents may have been named John and Sarah (or Sally). Hugh is also said to have had brothers named Charles and Barny.

Place of origin: Family lore states that Hugh and Catherine's family came "from Enniskillen." As farmers, they might have lived in Enniskillen civil parish. Another possibility, based on the Tithe Applotment data for Fermanagh civil parishes, is Derryvullan.

Hugh, Catherine, and 7 of their 8 children (excluding Sally) emigrated to Canada in approximately 1848.

Unfortunately, Hugh and Catherine may not have survived the journey to Canada. Their children settled mainly in Renfrew County, Ontario in the area near Eganville. (Mary later moved to California.)
