  • Hugh O'Connor (Aodh Ó Conchúir) of Arraglen, Castelgregory b abt. 1785 married Johanna Fitzgerald of Ballynevenoorah, Kilquane on Jan 21, 1810. They lived in the Townland of Clash which is adjacent to Ballynavenoorah to the north. Thier first 6 children were born in Clash. 1) Edward 1810 b Ballynavenoorah where his mother was from and was tradition for the mother to go ack to her family townland for the birh of the fist born He died in Holyoke, MA. 2) Catherine 1814-1896. 3) John Hugh 1816 -1892 who stayed in Clash when his father moved back to Arraglen and inherited the homestead in Clash. That stonoe and thatch building still stand although a cow house now and in the hands of an O'Connor descendant. 4) Margaret 1818 - 1883. 5) Mauriice 1821 d 1898  Brattlboro, Vt. 6) James 1823 - 1901.  When Hugh's father died in Arraglen sometime after the 1827 Tithe, son Hugh b 1785 moved back to Arraglen and had two more children there Patrick 1830, Michael 1833. Therefore, this family is known as The Mountain O'Connors since they farmed on the eastern and western foothills of MT Brandon. There were also called the Hughue Hughes due to generaton after generation of first born sons called Hugh (Aodh). Family history has it that they owned a horse that would travel from Clash over the mountain to Arraglen and back, by itself, carring packages and mail!
