My grandmother's brother, Hugh O'Keefe, a farmer, born abt 1838 Castlepark, Kilmihil, Clare was the son of Michael O'Keefe (1815-1865) and Susan Griffin. He married Margaret Murphy of Cahermurphy (born abt 1843 dau of Tim Murphy, farmer) on 16 May 1874 at the RC Church, Kilmihil.

Their children were Anne b 1874 Kilmihil, Clare, Margaret b 1876 Castlepark, Kilmihil, Honora (Norah) b 1879 Castlepark, Kilmihil, Michael b 1882 Castlepark, Kilmihil, Catherine (Kate) b 1885 Castlepark, Kilmihil died 14 Sep 1901 Sorrel Island, Kilmihil and Timothy b 1888 Castlepark, Kilmihil died 11 Aug 1954 Labasheeda, Clare, occupation shopkeeper.

Hugh O'Keefe died on 1 June 1911 and is buried at the old cemetery at Castlepark, Kilmihil.

The Census of Apr 1901 shows the O'Keefe family had left Castlepark and were residing in the townland of Sorrel Island. The Census shows Hugh age 57, his wife Margaret age 57 and their children Annie a 26, Margaret a 24, Honora a 20, Michael a 18 and Tim a 14. Also living at the family home was Hugh O'Keefe's brother John O'Keeffe aged 60, a farm servant, single.

The 1901 Census describes the home at Sorrel Island, Kilmihil as having stone walls, a thatched roof, 2 windows to the front and 2 rooms.

The Census of Apr 1911 records the family residing at Sorrel Island, Kilmihil. Hugh O'Keefe age 73, Margaret age 68, had 6 children 5 still alive, and children Norah a 30 and Timothy a 23. Hugh and Margaret could neither read nor write, but could speak both Irish and English.

Land Transfer Records show that in 1881 the land holdings at Castlepark had been transferred from Susan O'keefe to her son Hugh O'Keefe. In the period 1901 to 1903 the property transferred from Hugh O'Keefe to a Martin Ryan.

Land Transfer Records show that Hugh O'Keefe acquired 114 acres 2 roods at Sorrel Island which he shared with a Jas Culligan and Patk Shannon. In the period 1913 to 1933 the property transferred from Hugh O'Keefe to his widow Margaret to his son Timothy and subsequently transferred to a Martin Carrig.
