Census of 1901 and 1911 Ireland

My grandmother was Elizabeth Copithorne (1874–1962), the third child of James Copithorne (1846– ) and Martha Roycroft (1850–1931) of Skull. My great-great grandparents on my great grandfather’s side were William Copithorne and Margaret Morgan, and on my great grandmother’s side, Joseph Roycroft and Katherine Roycroft, about whom I know little more than their names. My grandmother and two of her sisters, Martha and Mary, emigrated to the Boston area around the turn of the century and were later joined by their brother, Tom. My grandmother’s siblings were William Copithorne (1871–1895), Margaret (1872–1947), Richard Copithorne (1875–1970), Martha (1877–1961), Mary Jane (1879–1975), Louisa (1881–1961), Annie 1883–1944), Hester (1885–1904), Rosaline (1886–1966), Thomas Copithorne (1888–1972), James (1890–1980), and Joseph (1891– ). According to the 1901 census my great grandparents and 9 of their children were living in Corravoley, Kilcoe, but in the 1911 census they were living with 6 of their children in Ballady, Kilmonoge.

My aunt Winifred was the unofficial family genealogist, and my goddaughter, Allegra Connell Frank, and double-second cousin Stella Marston (my great-uncle William Connell married my grandmother’s sister, Mary Copithorne), have been working extensively on Ancestry.com. My grandmother’s family was Church of Ireland, and I would very much like to know more about my great-great grandparents as well as any information about the family after the move to Kilmonoge.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance,

Jean Connell Hoff
