James Doherty was the son of Mary Frain and Mr. Doherty.

He married Margaret Harrington, lived at a farm in Tavneena (Tawnyinah) and raised livestock and farmed crops for the family. The home is still in the family's possession.

He and Margaret had some daughters - Bridgett, Mary and another girl who died in an accident while a child.

Margaret died abt 1906. He soon remarried to Mary Gleason and had a son, James, two more daughters, Catherine and Ann called Nance. James, the son, went to England to live when he became an adult, married and raised his family there. Mary went to America to serve in the household of the Truexx family near Philadelphia, PA. The family summered on the New Jersey shore and that is where she met her future husband, Clarence Smith. Daughters Catherine and Nance also went to Philadelphia. PA to live. Nance married Peter Brooks and raised a family in PA. Catherine never married but stayed closed to both her sisters and extended family throughout her lifetime.
