  • Hello!

I'm wondering if you have any background information on the Farrelly's in Lurgan. On the 1821 Census in Ireland, Elizabeth Farrelly (born 1811) and Jane Farrelly (born 1813) are listed as the Grand Daughters of my relatives John Henry (born 1746) and his wife, not sure of her first name (born 1751). Do you have any information about the Farrelly's back that far? I can't figure out how they are related! It could be a typo on the census, but when I saw this pop up I thought I would ask.

    Thank you!

  • "Hi Catherine,

Do you have the townland in Lurgan from the 1821 census? My Farrellys were in Curraghmore at least up to the famine. There was an Elizabeth but the John Henry doesn't ring a bell. Knowing the townland would help a great deal. Let me know what you find!

  • Hi!

They were in Pollamalady. It doesn't look like I can upload the census record, but here is what it says:

    - Address: Pollamalady

    - District Electoral Division: Lurgan

    - Parish: Lurgan

    -County: Co. Cavan

    - John Henry, Farmer & Labouring, Householder, age 75

    - Lizeey Henry, Spinner, Wife, age 70

    - Elizabeth Farrelly, Grand Daughter, age 10

    - Jane Farrelly, Grand Daughter, age 8

    - Bridget Lee, House Servant, age 22

    - Felix Cronin, House Servant, age 16

    - Patt Connell, House Servant, age 21

    Does anyone sound familiar?

  • Hi

The Rock family - Andrew Rock  was the father of Mary Jane Rock who married our James Farrelly (born 1858) . Andrew Rock lived in Curraghmore and in the Court records Andrew was tied up some with the Farrelly's. I kind of think in 1879 when Mary Jane and 2 siblings came to South Australia where their older 1/2 sister had already migrated knew of the Farrellys that were here and that Mary JAne met James Farrelly here (He also migrated on another ship the same year ) but could have known of each other  in Cuunty Cavan , met up and subsequently married. I have found information on the Rocks but it is ascertaining our James and Patrick Farrellys family where I stumble. South Australian records show their father was James and I would assume he would have been born in the mid 1820's-1830 given James and Patrick were born in 1858 & 1859. Using the court records I see links to Killinkere , Curraghmore, Lurgan but to be honest I may be looking at an entierly different family.  No one on my husabnds side ever bothered to ask questions. I look back 30 years ago - I should have asked for them whilst Old Nanna Farrelly was still alive
