James Hughes migrated to Prince Edward Island about 1841 with his wife Jane (Irving/Irwin). He lived on St. Mary's Road in the Lot 61 section of Kings County. He is buried in St. Paul's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Sturgeon, Kings County, PEI.
One of James and Jane's sons, James Joseph Hughes, would go on to become a member of the Canadian Parliament and a Senator for Kings County.
