Back to List

James Joyce listed in Griffith's valuation tenant farmer listed in Coolacloy and Hogs Island.

He is the father of Thomas Joyce who married Mary McGawley (McAwley/ McGauley .. pick your own spelling!) in 1867 Civil Parish of Roundstone.  Their children were all born at Coolacloy and they immigrated to North America.  They arrived in San Francisco about 1882.

There are two Joyce families showing in the 1911 census.  Michael Joyce and John Joyce, sons of Pat(rick).  It seems their sister Bridget is nearby married to Valentine Diamond.  Is the father Patrick the brother of my Thomas Joyce who is my great great grandfather?  Are there any other Joyce siblings?

I am in California and will be visiting Ireland in August 2018.

  • Hi.

    I have researched my husbands "JOYCE" family tree. He is related to Thomas.

    The information as I understand, is this;

    James Joyce (born Cashel, Ireland died Coolacloy, Ireland) m Eunice Halloran

    Their children were;

    1)Patrick b 1831 d 1901 m Catherine (Kitty) Davin. He stayed on the family farm. They had 6 children; (Michael b 1865, Mary b 1867, John b 1873 m Catherine Heffernan, Catherine, James, Peggy b 1875)

    2)Thomas b 1841 d 1891 m Miss McAuley

    3)Peggy b? m John Lally

    4)John b? emigrated to USA

    My husband, Barry is a descendant from John Joyce and Catherine Heffernan, Patricks son. We have been back to Hog Island and Coolacloy and still have cousins living there. Would love to make contact re the Joyce family tree. My email is srodwell@xtra.co.nz.
