They left Ireland between 1837 and 1841 with four of their children: John (born abt. 1829), Mortimer/Martaugh (born abt. 1831), Johannah (born abt. 1833), and Michael (born abt. 1837). Patrick (born abt. 1841) was, most likely, the first child born in Canada - in the Township of Dummer, County of Peterborough in present-day Ontario. Four children followed: Daniel (born abt. 1843), James (born abt. 1844), Bridget (born abt. 1847) and Mary (born abt. 1850). James Lynch was a farmer and a Roman Catholic.
