James O'Brien was baptised in St Mary's Parish, in the city of Cork on 28th April 1810. He had an older brother called Cornelius. By the 1851 Census, Cornelius was living in Bristol, England. James joined him there by Dec 1851, as his eldest son, John O'Brien, was born in Bristol that month. By the time of the 1861 Census, James was living in the same building as Cornelius, in Marsh Street, in the centre of Bristol. In this Census, James and his wife, Catherine (nee Mahoney), had 2 children living with them, Patrick (aged 8) and Michael (aged 6, my Gt Grandad). Sadly, 2 of their children had died... including John (the eldest). James worked as a Linen Weaver. He died, in Bristol, around October 1868.
