James O'Neill, Esquire, was an attorney in Arklow, County Wicklow. He was a member of the Church of England. 

He was born about 1796 and died before 1851, when his widow was counted in the Quebec, Canada Census.

Wife: Jane Patchell (1796 - 23 Aug 1861). Her death notice (attached) was published in the Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping Gazette of Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

All of his children were born in Ireland: Eliza O'Neill (about 1819 - ?), Mary Ann O'Neill (1823 - ?), Jane O'Neill (about 1829 - ?), Rosana "Rose" O'Neill (1831-1865), Kate O'Neill (about 1833 - ?), Miles O'Neill (1836-20 Jun 1866), Philip O'Neill (about 1838 - ?), and Alice O'Neill (about 1840 - ?). His son Miles' death notice was also published in Quebec City.
